Memos on Fire Marshall resignation, transfer

We have, through our public records request, the March 29 memo from interim County Administrator Larry Newsom to Frank Edwards, public safety bureau chief. Newsom asks for Fire Marshal Rinaldi’s voluntary resignation, effective April 6. The county administrator praises Rinaldi’s experience, knowledge and passion to ensure compliance of the Fire Code.

However, he asserts that Rinaldi gave “the appearance of enjoyment in enforcing rules and regulations,” instead of working with citizens with toward resolutions.

Later when Newsom met with Edwards, they agreed to transfer Rinaldi instead. Read April 2010 memo.
