Mobile Visitor Bureau criticized

Earlier this month, the daily newspaper made a fuss (front page, above the fold) over a USS Lexington reunion that is being held in Mobile, instead of Pensacola. The organizer claimed that he had called the Pensacola Visitor Information Center several times and that no one got with him. The organizer was welcomed by the Mobile Visitor Center so the reunion was moved there.

The Mobile Press Register reports the Mobile City Council is trying to find out what’s happening with a U.S. Olympic weightlifting event they believed was coming to Mobile this December.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, President Reggie Copeland said the city was in danger of losing the event because the Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau was refusing to pay $10,000 it had promised in order to host the competition.
