Spoke with County Attorney Allison Rogers. The actual purchase price for the land is around $2.7 million. The $11 million dollars was gifted in 2005 to PJC. The college was able to get the matching funds passed by the state legislature in 2006.
However, the deal won’t go through unless the county, PJC and Sheriff-elect David Morgan are all on board. The land purchase can be canceled prior to Dec. 18 with no penalty. County gets back its money and the state gets back its funds.
Morgan is reluctant to commit, especially under a pressured deadline.
