More Spay, Less Pay

dogEscambia County is celebrating the 19th annual World Spay Day all month. During the month of February, qualifying county residents—at least the first 100 of them—may have their pets spayed or neutered for half-price.

The Escambia County Animal Services department is partnering with Concerned Citizens for Animal Welfare to offer the reduced-cost surgeries.

“We are excited to be working with such committed partners who encourage responsible pet ownership,” said Delfi Messinger, manager of the county animal shelter, in a released statement.“World Spay Day is a great way to engage the community in reducing the overpopulation of unwanted pets.”

In addition to half-price services, participating residents will also be entered into a drawing. Prizes include pet-gift baskets with $75 worth of treats and toys.

Participants must verify their household income, to ensure they qualify for the low-cost program. For more information, contact the animal shelter at 595-3075.
