We reported yesterday on the death of Audi Anderson, age 4. He was a Pre-K student Sherwood Elementary School who died after choking on food while eating in the school’s cafeteria.
The boy’s mother, Lindsay Hall, posted on Facebook earlier this week: “We’re going to get justice for my angel so nobody else ever has to feel this pain!”
She has begun using the hashtags #justiceforaudiman and #justiceforsweets.
According an article in the PNJ last fall, Sherwood only has one Pre-K classroom. We have no records on how many children are in that class. However, Achieve Escambia has been promoting Pre-K enrollment so the school have seen an increase in four-year-olds.
The hope is School Superintendent Malcolm Thomas will release a report on what happened and his plans for preventing future such tragedies. To date, he has refused to comment on the incident that occurred on Sept. 19 – 9 days ago.
Budgets at the Escambia County Health Department in 2013 led to the end of every public school having a school nurse. The School District did not pick up the cost, and over five dozen school nurses and health support technicians were cut out of Escambia County public schools. Since then, the schools have had only health technicians.
In the Superintendent Jim Paul era, the district safety officer would have had complete report in the incident with recommendations in less than 24 hours. The report would have been released to the media and public.
