Mother says her son was warning of danger, not threatening

The mother of the Booker T. Washington High School student that was arrested last month and charged with threatening the school has told Inweekly that her son was trying to warn students, parents, faculty and law enforcement of what he believed was a real threat similar to what had happened on Feb. 14 in Parkland, FLa.

“My son Malik Kameka and his friends were the ones who brought the Facebook threat to three schools to the attention of the parents, and a parent called the PPD and reported that–which caused heavy (police) presence at the school the morning of Feb. 20,” she wrote Inweekly in an email.

She said that the administrators failed to lock down the school and later blamed her son to take attention away from “their inadequate safety precautions knowing this was a real and reported threat.”

The mother added, “My son and all his friends knew this threat was reported and knew what happened down south and the inaction, and they were terrified that law enforcement and the school did not take (seriously) the threat that had been posted for almost two weeks.”
