Move on

This morning the Escambia Board of County Commissioners meets to discuss County Administrator George Touart’s severance package.

I have the feeling that some deal was brokered prior to Touart’s retirement/resignation annoucement on Thursday. His speech was written and worded a very specifically. Touart’s stepping down will save the county from a long-drawn of battle of whether the county administrator violated any ethics laws – a battle that has already paralyzed county government for nearly a month.

I’m glad the BOCC is moving so quickly on this. Whatever the decision, we need to move on. A year from now, the voters will forget about this if the commissioners hire the right person to replace Touart.
