The Northwest Arkansas Naturals started their second homestand in their brand new stadium by splitting a doubleheader with the Springfield Cardinals. 5,120 fans enjoyed the games.

The Pensacola Pelicans start Spring training tomorrow. Fans will have their first opportunity to purchase single game tickets at the Pre-Season Extravaganza sponsored by Verizon Wireless and Cat Country 98.7. The free event takes place at Pelican Park at UWF from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This is the first official event to kick-off the beginning of the 2008 season. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets for the expected sell-out games including the four post-game fireworks shows and seven premium giveaway nights.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Pelicans coaches and players will be conducting a FREE youth baseball and softball clinic for kids ages 7-12. During the Extravaganza, players will be available for pictures and autographs.

Other activities include “National Anthem” and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” try-outs, PA announcer try-outs, kids bounce house, Scoop mascot try-outs, Pelicans volunteers, bat boy try-outs, and free food for a limited time. Kids can also register and pick-up their Kids Club t-shirts.

The staple of minor league baseball is the fun and sometimes wild and crazy between-inning promotions. Fans will get a sneak peak at the new Pelicans promotions and even have the chance to practice with the on-field crew as they prepare for opening day.

…..The City of Pensacola has yet to cut the grass at the site of the future ballpark.
