Two North Carolina charter schools seeking approval to open in 2016 have dropped Newpoint Education Partners (NEP) as their management company.
Pine Springs Preparatory Academy and Cape Fear Preparatory Academy had their charter applications sent back to the state’s Charter School Advisory Board for further review after the State Board of Education became concerned over a state attorney’s investigation into NEP’s Escambia County schools.
NEP officials were to appear before the Charter School Advisory Board last week, but the schools submitted letters announcing they had severed relations with Newpoint.
The schools’ revised applications will be reviewed by an advisory subcommittee. The advisory board will vote in July whether to recommend the schools to the state Board.
