NC Policy Watch reports today that the North Carolina State Board of Education voted to temporarily put the brakes on allowing that Newpoint Education Partners opening schools in its state.
The Board referred Pine Springs Preparatory Academy in Wake County and Cape Fear Preparatory Academy in New Hanover County to the Charter School Advisory Board to investigate allegations of grade tampering in Florida surrounding both schools’ management company – Newpoint Education Partners.
Newpoint Education Partners had two of its school charters terminated last month by the Escambia County School Board for numerous contract violations. On Monday, Newpoint Pensacola math teacher Chris Fowler was arrested on four counts of helping students cheat on End of Course exams. On Tuesday, Newpoint fired all its teachers, including those working at its elementary school, Five Flags Academy. The elementary school was the only Escambia County Newpoint school that still had a contract with the school district.
