New College trustee out to ban USA Today

One of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new appointments to the New College of Florida board of trustees wants to clean house and ban USA Today from a list of “approved media outlets” for the school until it commits to “adhere to its own policies.”

Eddie Speir, the co-founder of Inspiration Academy, a private faith-based school in Bradenton, posted on his blog he wants to get rid of the board chair and vice chair, its General Counsel and President Pat Okker.

He wants the board to “declare a financial emergency and employ a zero-based budgeting policy of terminating all contracts for faculty, staff and administration and immediately rehiring those faculty, staff and administration who fit in the new financial and business model.”

Speir also wrote, “I move that we remove USA Today and its affiliates from the list of approved media outlets until an apology is received with a commitment from USA Today to adhere to its own policies.”
