The Parker Circle Neighborhood Association is organizing and are asking the mayor and Pensacola City Council to address the longstanding needs of the Burgess Road corridor for safety, drainage and sidewalks.
Commissioner Grover Robinson did have the county install sidewalks in the part of the corridor outside of the city limits to provide a safe path for school kids. The city has yet to address the issue.
“This area has been too long neglected by the City,” wrote John Phillips at the request of Elaine Bridges, President of Parker Circle Neighborhood Association, in an email to council members.
Over the past year, local neighborhood associations have been very successful in influencing public policy on a city, county and state level. Neighborhood associations in the Spanish Trail and Cordova Park area got Dollar General to withdraw its plans to build in their area. In North Hill, the homeowners convinced Gov. Rick Scott to not relocate the parole and probations to nearby North Palafox Street. The Wedgewood, Rolling Hills and Olive Heights association is fighting the landfills surrounding their homes, and Rep. Mike Hill and Commissioner Lumon May will be touring their area tomorrow.
