Nigeria: 50 years of oil spills

Yesterday the New York Times had a front page story on how 546 million gallons of oil have gushed into the Niger Delta over the last five decades, leaving rude-blackened swamps that once were bountiful with crabs and shrimps. Read article.

Note: NYT reports nearly 11 million gallons a year is spilled in Nigeria. The Deepwater Horizon well gushed more than that in five days.
