— For the last nine months the Springfest Board has aggressively pursued public and private sector sponsorships needed to produce Springfest 2008.
Due to the current business and economic climate, Springfest, Inc., in a vote of the Board of Directors made the decision to not pursue Springfest 2008. Sponsorship commitments have not been secured to the level necessary to move forward at this time. Although over the past few weeks discussions were held with an interested private investor, Springfest did not feel comfortable proceeding this spring because of the limited time remaining to program a first-class festival for April 2008.
Bobby Marcus, President of Springfest, Inc., said “We are disappointed but know we have made a prudent and fiscally responsible decision. I commend the efforts put forth by the Board in pursuing funding for Springfest 2008. ”
“We thank the Escambia County Commission for their financial commitment, the private sector committed sponsors for their support, and the Pensacola City Council for their consideration and will continue to pursue plans to bring Springfest back to the streets of Pensacola in 2009 and provide support to other local events which share our desire to provide outdoor music for the people of Northwest Florida.â€
The Springfest Board believes in the Springfest event and will do everything possible to provide a quality music event in 2009.
