Dear Neighbors,
The City Council met today at their committee meeting, and by a very narrow margin, approved our Discussion item for the proposed Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Office planned for the Coca Cola Building at 1625 North Palafox Street. This discussion item will move forward to their Council Meeting agenda for this Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. and everyone who wishes to speak will have that opportunity.
We were unpleasantly surprised today to see that several Council members wanted the item pulled off the agenda and they were very strong in their opinions NOT to have public discussion of the issue with the citizens of Pensacola.
Fortunately, Councilman Charles Bare persisted and with the help of other Council members, the vote to remove the agenda item was not passed. Thank you to everyone who came and participated today.
Please come to the City Council meeting on Thursday evening, 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. Even if you are too shy to speak, let your presence there be witnessed. Let’s all sit together on the right side of the auditorium. Councilman Charles Bare will ask us to stand so that Council can see those affected by this proposal for our neighborhood and our City. The meeting will be held on the first floor of City Hall in the Council’s Chambers. For those new to the area, City Hall is located at 222 W. Main Street, directly across from the new Maritime Park/Ball Stadium. (If you take Spring Street, south towards the water, City Hall is the last building on your right before Spring Street ends at Main Street).
Several people have offered to car pool those who cannot drive or who are new to the area and would like to ride with someone. Please do not hesitate to reply to this e-mail and we will gladly assist.
See you Thursday!
