The North Hill Preservation Association is upset about the Emerald Coast Utility Authority’s plan to build above ground, sewage storage tanks on site of the former Medical Center Clinic at 1750 North Palafox Street.
Residents from the neighborhoods of North Hill, Long Hollow, Eastside, Old East Hill, and East Hill have collect petition signatures. Over 500 signatures have been collected. See petition.
“ECUA claims that it will only be used for Emergencies, but during their February 8th meeting, staff confirmed that the scenarios for tank use are more aligned to periodic use. The Citizens of Pensacola and the ECUA rate payers have contributed almost $300 million to see these odorous facilities relocated to 2,200 secluded acres, 27-miles away from Downtown Pensacola, far from neighborhoods and commercial businesses.
No Environmental Assessment/Impact Study or Economic Impact Study was performed on the impact of this project adjacent to a neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places, on one of Downtown Pensacola’s Primary Corridors into the City. No Public Notice was given to residents about the project or the intended use for the former hospital property.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on ECUA to re-evaluate the selection of this site for their proposed project and encourage them to locate untreated, raw sewage storage facilities on property in the Industrial Zoning District where it will not negatively impact the quality of life, and property values of our City’s many residential districts.”
The ECUA Board meets at 2 p.m. today in the ECUA Board Room, 9255 Sturdevant Street, Ellyson Industrial Park.
