Northrop Grumman Corp. said Wednesday its Mobile-made KC-30 tanker would provide an economic boost in neighboring Mississippi.
Los Angeles-based Northrop is offering the KC-30 to the U.S. Air Force as a replacement for its aging fleet of KC-135 aerial refueling tankers. If successful against a rival bid from Chicago-based Boeing Co., the KC-30 would be assembled in a new plant at Mobile’s Brookley Field Industrial Complex, creating up to 1,500 direct jobs.
Northrop said operations at the Brookley plant would contribute about $12 million annually in Mississippi. The estimate came a day after Northrop announced that the KC-30 would generate $280 million annually in Alabama and create 5,000 jobs statewide.
