Northwest Florida Construction Career Days, April 16- 17

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) is proud to join the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Federal Highway Administration and others to host the Northwest Florida Construction Career Days (NWFL CCD) for 1,300 area high school students on April 16-17 at the Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds.

Florida is growing, and the demand for qualified construction workers is growing as well. The NWFL CCD provides high school students in 4 counties an opportunity to see the variety of transportation industry careers, including project management, environmental management, road design and construction, traffic management, driving safety, asphalt and concrete operations, as well as work in the trades, like electrical, landscaping and road crew specialties.

NWFL CCD serves FDOT District 3, with a land area of nearly 11,500 square miles. There are numerous employment opportunities in the road and bridge construction industry now and in the future.

Students attending the NWFL CCD will be exposed to multiple Learning Labs, Career Center Labs, and numerous operational and static equipment stations. Students will have an opportunity to climb into and operate equipment, go up in bucket trucks, and see how the industry employs the tools used to design, build and maintain Florida’s roads and bridges.

Scholarships and Job Opportunities:
• High school seniors who attend CCD in-person or virtually are eligible to receive a portion of up to $50,000 in scholarship funds that will be awarded this year. The fund was established to assist high school graduates enrolling in college, trade/vocational education programs, or those entering directly into the workforce.
• During the event, students over the age of 18 can fill out applications for companies looking to hire employees in these career fields.
• The event allows students of all backgrounds and skill levels an up-close chance to explore career opportunities with FDOT and its industry partners that offer substantial benefits and add tremendous value to their communities.
