Mobile Press Register reports:
The Alabama state docks saw record cargo volume in 2007, driven primarily by a 50 percent increase in container cargo and record coal shipments, the Alabama State Port Authority learned Tuesday.
Preliminary fiscal year-end numbers show that 27 million tons of cargo, including 21 million tons of coal, passed through the port during the year. That rose from 24.6 million tons in 2006, according to docks officials.
