Occupy Pensacola moves protest to Regions today

OP Press Release: Our migration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza to City Hall has proven to be a stressful one. Our logistics were “sabotaged” last Friday with the Mayor’s announcement to prohibit tents at City Hall forcing us to march in mass and attend the City Council meeting. As a result, our planned move was rushed and we have just now worked out our layout and have sorted through the piles of tents, chairs and other gear which had to be quickly piled together and brought to the new site. The City’s Wi-Fi has been intermittent and it has been difficult until today to get out any more media advisories. We have also had the opportunity to help people with alcohol dependency. Every day is a learning experience, but we are maintaining and policing ourselves effectively.

We are now standing tall at City Hall and our numbers are growing. We have grown from thirty occupiers a night to over seventy and there are even more people during the day.

Today, about thirty occupiers marched to Bank of America and held a three hour long protest on Garden St. But if you missed it, no worries! We have plenty more actions coming up and we are stronger than ever.

Tomorrow, November 2, 2011 between 1 o’clock and 4 o’clock pm, there will be a rally and march to Regions Bank to educate the public on their unethical practices.

On Thursday, Nov 3, 2011, Occupy Pensacola will march in solidarity with the Almagamated Transit Union from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza to the County Commission Chambers and attend the open forum to voice general concerns.

We also had a concert over the weekend featuring local musical groups Tupelo Honey, Mike Potter and Based on a True Story. We will continue to have live performances as they come in. We expect to have at least three or four live performances a week over the coming weeks.

We also got the big screen up and running, and are showing different movies and documentaries every night.
