Press Release: Last night there was an act of vandalism to the parking meters surrounding City Hall. The clear plastic on the meters was blacked out so that they cannot be read and “99%†was painted on the posts. Occupy Pensacola condemns this act and views it a sabotage, as it happens to coincide with the City Council meeting today where the issue concerning tent structures on city property will be reexamined.
Representatives of Occupy Pensacola are now going to the City Police to file a complaint, stating that someone who is against the movement was responsible for the vandalism. We are already in a dialogue with City Officials about the incident and members of Occupy Pensacola have removed the paint from the parking meters.
Though we understand the frustration behind using graffiti as a direct, non-violent action, we at Occupy Pensacola would again like to reiterate that we do not condone the use of graffiti on local businesses, and ask that any more instances of graffiti that may seem to speak for or resemble the 99% be reported to us so that we can remedy the problem.
Occupy Pensacola will work with the city and police to hold those accountable for this act of vandalism.
