I drove by City Hall this morning and saw a handful of stalwart Occupiers huddled together under a few blue tarps at the corner of Government and Spring streets. Here is their latest press release:
Pensacola, Fla. Nov. 27 2011 – City police today visited Occupy Pensacola and informed us that we are no longer allowed on the City Hall lawn and that those on the property will be arrested after 11pm. We were told by police that “camping equipment†will no longer be permitted at any time of day and will be confiscated if it is found on site. There was a strong indication people will be arrested tonight for standing on public space. We were also told by Lt. Steve Ordonia that they were operating from a directive from the mayor.
As the City has decreed that the first amendment no longer applies after 11pm, we will be gathering together on the City Hall lawn at 11:01. We encourage all to come and join us as we exercise our 1st amendment right the way it was written in the constitution:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.â€
