It’s a miracle. Six months of planning resulted in a music festival that you’re going to attend…or else.

It features local, regional and national bands, beer and the general partying that brings the community together.

The Hawkshaw Music Fest rises from the ashes of SpringFest and heads back to its roots: raising money for a worthy cause; giving local musicians a stage, good sound system and an appreciative audience; and drawing our diverse community together in downtown.

Julie Roberts will serenade us with the country hit “Break Down Here.” Be sure to catch Until June, an up-and-comer headed for certain stardom. Refill your beer cup before Zac Brown’s back-country ditties. Cowboy Mouth is coming down “The Avenue” to perform “Voodoo Shoppe” for hazy throwbacks to the Big Easy.

Check out the Military Appreciation stage and say thanks to the troops who serve our community. All proceeds from the festival (assuming we don’t lose our shirt) are going to Naval Air Station Pensacola’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation, USO and Bravo for Kids.

The festival is named after what may be the oldest neighborhood in downtown Pensacola. Hawkshaw is the name given to the area between Bayfront Parkway and Ninth Avenue, where the headquarters of Gulf Power Company now sits.

So come listen to good music and be a groupie for a weekend. Then, in a year or so when people have heard of these bands, you can tell them you knew them when…
