Ohio State Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Ohio Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board file a lawsuit on March 2 against BP – claiming the oil giant “double dipped” when it replaced the underground fuel tanks at its service stations around the state.
BP allegedly filed claims with the state fund and with its insurance carrier for the replacements. The fund was supposed to only be used by owners who were uninsured.
“Our lawsuit alleges that BP knowingly and intentionally took more than $33 million that it was not eligible to accept,†DeWine said in a statement. “BP has to follow the same rules as other businesses and can’t engage in misconduct without consequence.â€
