Oil Spill Restoration Meeting

The second in a series of meetings to explore early oil-spill restoration will be held tonight at the University of West Florida.

The Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Trustees are seeking public comment on the Deepwater Horizon Draft Phase I Early Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment (DERP/EA). The plan lays out a series of restoration projects along the Gulf Coast region.

The projects are supposed to be aimed toward restoring the environment—and addressing the loss of human-use of the Gulf— following the 2010 oil spill. Escambia County is looking to restore beach dunes, to the estimated tune of $585, 898, and construct and enhance four boat ramp facilities, at an estimated cost of $4.4 million.

Tonight’s meeting will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at UWF’s conference center, 1100 University Parkway in Pensacola.
