Today, 52 years of government experience left the Pensacola City Council. Everyone was there to honor the old guard and welcome the new council members. Everyone, except Marty Donovan, who Mayor Fogg said was in Houston for a cancer treatment for his wife.
The outgoing council members and their families were honored with special resolutions. Jack Nobles (14.5 years) said that his wife, Molly, had told him to be smart, be short and be gone. He thanked the “wonderful” city staff that has “done a fantastic job.”
“We have accomplished great things,” Nobles said.
Mike DeSorbo thanked his wife Millie for being by his side. He, too was proud of the City employees and staff who have acted “responsibly, professionally and efficiently.”
“I still will be around to be sure the change you receive is the change you wanted,” DeSorbo said who lost a close race to Maren DeWeese. In separate set of remarks read by DeSorbo, his wife thanked the voters of District 3 for supporting her husband for the past 21 years.
Mayor John Fogg (19 years) also thanked his wife, Pat, and the city staff which he called the “best city staff of any city of any size in the U.S.”
Fogg said that he has never been more optimistic about our community. “We are more open-minded about discussing new forms of government for the city and county.”
“We can move forward in a positive way.”
