Louis Cooper reports in the daily newspaper that Avalex Technologies will be moving soon into its new headquarters in south Santa Rosa County. It was August 2009 that we reported that the Pensacola company, which was to be the first tenant of the Downtown Tech Park, was moving.
Two years from announcement to moving into new headquarters. The Downtown Tech Park is just now being completed and will be ready for construction. Avalex would have lost two years had it waited for the City of Pensacola and PEDC.
The Pensacola CRA (which is made up of the city council) approved Project Press/Hixardt in October 2009. The contract isn’t scheduled to come back to the CRA for a vote until next month.
Santa Rosa County & Team Santa Rosa won the economic war (as Gov. Rick Scott calls it) against the old Pensacola’s city manager/city council form of government.
Mayor Hayward will be announcing a reorganization plan as part of his budget message in August. There are a couple on the Pensacola City Council that may try to stop it.
However, streamlining and changing City Hall is critical if Pensacola is to compete in attracting and growing jobs. Hopefully the majority of the council will understand that and not continue to cling to the past.
