Open Mic Night features new poet laureate, Aug. 19

Jamey Jones, the new Poet Laureate of Northwest Florida and instructor at Pensacola State, opens the August 19 Third Tuesday Open Mic with a reading of his poetry. Jones, a fifth generation Pensacolian, holds a Mastsers of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Long Island University and is well known in national and local poetry circles. He taught at LIU and has worked with some of the most influential figures in contemporary poetry never losing touch with Pensacola. His book Blue Rain Morning resonates with the meaning of place, beginning and ending in Pensacola.

Sponsored by West Florida Literary Federation, the free event is open to the public. Following Jones’ poetry reading, other area writers and poets will read original works. Come to read or listen.
