Opening Doors MIA for homeless

As reported by WEAR and this blog, homeless families face eviction from Jones Swamp Wetland in Warrington by Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Inweekly called Opening Doors Northwest Florida multiple times this morning to see how the nonprofit organization planned to assist the evicted homeless population.

No one answered when using the prompts to reach a case worker, and the voicemail said, “We will get back to you within two business days.”

Opening Doors claims its mission is to end homelessness in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and states, “We work to permanently change the lives of those who are living, or close to living, without a home because everyone deserves a safe place to sleep at night.”

Answering the phone and returning messages promptly would be good first steps in achieving that mission. We will keep you posted if anyone from Opening Door returns our message.

  1. Oh, also Rick, there’s no walk in services at Opening Doors any more–if somebody shows up, they tell them to call the number. They don’t return calls, either. Makes one wonder where the 75% of HUD money they awarded their agency, in direct conflict of interest, disappeared to.

  2. I won’t wait with bated breath for Waterfront Mission to open up the hundreds of beds they typically keep empty, either.
