According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s office website, Operation Brownsville began this morning at 8 a.m. with Escambia County Code Enforcement and Animal Control. They will focus on Brownsville through Friday, June 16.
The calendar page quotes Sheriff Chip Simmons: “Through ENFORCEMENT and ENGAGEMENT, this operation will provide a robust, but uniform, community effort aimed at reducing gun violence while uplifting and strengthening the residents of the Brownsville area.”
The website lists a series of four Community Conversations to held at 5:30 p.m. on the first four Mondays of May at the Brownsville Community Center.
Monday, May 1: Topic: Crime Prevention
Monday, May 8: Drug and Opioid Awareness
Monday, May 15: Business Development and Entrepreneurship
Monday, May 22: Escambia County School District, Career and Technical Academies
There will be an additional conversation on Monday, June 5 – Topic: Gun Violence, Awareness For Teens.
The calendar also lists Florida Licensing On Wheels (FLOW) BUS will help people obtain driver’s licenses and identification cards from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 and May 20.
Operation Brownsville will end with a movie night on Friday, June 16. Other events will be added to the calendar in the coming days.
