The Escambia County’s Sheriff’s Office will conduct an “Operation Clean Sweep” tomorrow in the Brownsville area. The clean-up will begin at 8 a.m. at the new Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 2601 W. Strong Street. For the first time, Pensacola Police Department will join effort that will cover areas from Pace Boulevard to North T Street.
The Florida State Probation Office will also join the local law enforcement agencies and will be serving warrants.
“We are glad to welcome our partners in our on-going Operation Clean Sweep efforts,” said Sheriff David Morgan, “and applaud the diligent work of our community volunteers in working together to make Escambia County a better place to live and work.”
The focus of Operation Clean Sweep is to control and prevent the damaging effects of crime, according to a press release issued by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, by working with Neighborhood Watch groups, residents, business owners and churches in the neighborhoods.
When Operation Clean Sweep worked in the Brownsville area in January 2012, they collected 10 tons of trash. Traffic checkpoints issued 58 citations. Code Enforcement opened seven new cases and checked on 40 of their active cases. The ECSO sex crimes unit made 14 address verifications.
