Over 15,400 votes have been cast by County Commission District 2 voters as of Saturday. Only 6,317 people voted in the GOP primary that matched Commissioner Doug Underhill vs. a well-funded challenger Alan McMillan.
The early voting and mail-ins are 76.2 percent of the 2014 general election total.
Conventional political wisdom is a heavy voter turnout works against the incumbent. However, 1,857 more people voted in the 2018 GOP primary than did in the 2014 GOP primary (Gene Valentino vs. Underhill), and Underhill was able to squeak out a 212-vote victory.
Underhill’s two best precincts in the August primary have had heavy turnouts already-Â Â Precinct 3:Â 907 votes and Precinct 67: 2,395 votes.
