Palafox Market, is celebrating its ninth anniversary on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m..
A brainchild of former DIB executive director Kim Kimbrough, the farmer’s market has evolved from a small group of locals to more than 120 weekly vendors selling fresh produce, handmade goods, art and much more.
To celebrate the ninth anniversary, the Downtown Improvement Board is closing Palafox Street northbound, from Chase to Gregory Street and has planned a morning full of fun.
From 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. there will be live music from The String Farm Band, as well as music from Three Bean Soup from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Along with music, there will be a Kid’s Zone, complete with a bounce house and fun games.
Continuing with tradition, there will be a hosted Market Masters competition during the celebration. A version of Pensacola’s very own Chopped, Market Masters will be a battle of the chefs between Jason Perry from Jackson’s Steakhouse, Dan Dunn from H2O Hilton Pensacola Beach and Gus Silvos from Skopelos at New World. The three chefs will be taking the first half hour to create their signature dish and the second half, they have to cook a delectable meal made from a mystery basket of fresh ingredients found at Palafox Market.
“This is always one of the favorite parts of the annual Market celebration,†says Teresa Duffey, Downtown Improvement Board Palafox Market Coordinator. “If you have never been to Palafox Market before, this is a great way to see the different goods the vendors offer and how to make a fresh meal at home from ingredients you find right at the Market.â€
Palafox Market is every Saturday from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. in Downtown Pensacola at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Plaza.
