Palin rewards and punishes

The NY Times has spent time in Wasilla and Alaska investigating Sarah Palin. It’s a good article – Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes

Highlights:

If you criticize Palin, you are labeled a “hater.” And she will go after the haters.

Her husband Todd plays an active role in her administration. Handles her more vindictive messages.

Her lack of knowledge on the issues that was revealed in the ABC interview was no fluke. She wasn‘t familiar with the issues when she ran for Gov. and relied on color-coded note cards.

Takes care of old friends. At least five schoolmates have been given high paying jobs, including former real estate agent Franci Havemeister who now heads the State Division of Agriculture which pays $95K.

She and her administration evade public records laws by using private emails. Appears to be very secretive.

She is charismatic and goes good political instincts. Some of her employee issues as mayor may be due to her working so hard for change.

Was absent from the state capitol. During her first year as governor, Palin spent 312 nights in her home 600 miles away. Some lawmakers took to wearing “Where’s Sarah?” pins.
