Cleveland, OH – For the seventh consecutive year industry website Gameops.com has announced its Best of Awards for 2007. Five categories were decided by a panel of industry experts and awarded for excellence and creativity in the field of game operations and presentation.
Topping the list of winners was the New Orleans Hornets for Best Team Operations. Challenged for two seasons by the effects of Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets overcame those challenges and succeed in producing the best in sports. Receiving Honorable Mention were the NBA Phoenix Suns and the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
The Washington Nationals (MLB) won the category of Best Contest or On-Field Promotion for their Presidential Race. This live action race features four costumed US Presidents at each National’s game. The contest has created a tremendous following and is a signature presentation of the team.
Best Promotional Night Honors were split by two teams, the Portland Beavers (Pacific Coast League) and the Pensacola Pelicans (American Association). The Portland Beavers created a national search for the original Bob L. Head and created a premium bobblehead giveaway in the mold of winner Bob Leroy Head from Maquoketa, Iowa. Pensacola won for their creative tribute to 150 Years of Toilet Paper. Also honored was the Fort Myers Miracle for Billy Donovan Night, which playfully spoofed University of Florida’s Basketball Coach Billy Donovan’s change of heart on the Orlando Magic head coaching position.
Also honored in 2007 were the Red Panda Acrobat as Best Act and Fresno Grizzlies’ Mascot Parker as Best Mascot.
Awards are selected from nominations across all sports and at all levels. Gameops.com canvasses a panel of selected industry leaders for our Best of Awards. Their collective input is considered when building the final award selections. Our panel consists of active leaders in the game operations community and people who have the opportunity to see a range of teams and leagues.
