On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Johnnie Wright to the Pensacola State College District Board of Trustees.
Press Release: Wright is the Regional President of SmartBank. Active in his community, he is a member of the Fiesta Pensacola Board of Governors and previously served as a member of the Ronald McDonald Charities of Northwest Florida and the Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County. Wright earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Troy University. .
SmartBank hired Wright as Senior Vice President and Market Leader in 2013 after it had acquired GulfSouth Private Bank. Before joining SmartBank, Wright was the Pensacola Market President for Hancock Bank.
The bank said Wright’s appointment was part of a strategic growth moves to solidify SmartBank’s presence in the Panhandle. The acquisition of GulfSouth Private Bank in 2012 paved the way for SmartBank to expand its market in the Northwest Florida region, which includes branches in Destin and Fort Walton Beach.
The banker has been on Inweekly’s Power List since 2018.
