Pensacola Children’s Chorus announces new team members

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus is announced two two new assistant directors to lead the singers of the Pensacola Children’s Chorus: Hanan Tarabay and Katie Powell.

No stranger to Pensacola’s stages and an alumna of PCC, Hanan Tarabay is an accomplished mezzo-soprano who has performed with Palm Beach Opera, Pensacola Opera, the Chautauqua Institute, The Spoleto Festival dei due Mondi (Spoleto, Italy), and the Opera Orchestra of the Teatro Regio (Turin, Italy), as well as several credits at the Interlochen Arts Academy (Michigan) and the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia). A native of Pensacola, Ms. Tarabay maintains a private voice studio and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of West Florida. Ms. Tarabay will serve PCC as the Assistant Director for High School Choirs.


Katie Powell will join PCC’s team as the Assistant Director of Elementary and Middle School Choirs. Currently, Ms. Powell is the choral director at Ransom Middle School in the Escambia County School District and leads choral ensembles at Christ Church Cathedral in Mobile, Alabama. In 2016, she was named a Champion of the Arts by the Escambia County School District for her innovative technology-based curriculum for elementary general music. Ms. Powell is a candidate for a Master in Music Education degree from the University of Florida and earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
