Pensacola Children’s Chorus partners with Parks & Rec

A new partnership between Pensacola Children’s Chorus (PCC) and the City of Pensacola will bring three new and completely free singing programs to the city’s neighborhood resource centers. Called Pensacola SINGS, this array of choirs aims to promote a child’s personal growth by fun, high quality singing experiences.

“Through Pensacola SINGS, the Pensacola Children’s Chorus hopes to remove any financial barriers that might prevent a family from exploring the arts within their communities,” says Miguel Aldahondo, a PCC alumnus and the leader of these new singing groups. “We are very excited to provide this opportunity for children to grow and connect through fun and engaging music.”

These new, no-cost choirs will be hosted on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings from 5:00-6:00pm beginning in March. Open to singers and grades 1-12, they are hosted at the following sites: Woodland Heights (beginning March 7), Gull Point (beginning March 8), and Fricker (beginning March 9).

“Across the United States, there are notable partnerships between civic and arts entities that have worked wondrously to improve the lives of young people and tackle community challenges,” says Alex Gartner, PCC’s Artistic & Executive Director. “I’m grateful for the support the Mayor’s office, City Council, and the incredible team at the Department of Parks & Recreation for making this dream a reality for our city’s youth.”

Pensacola SINGS is one of a number of new initiatives spearheaded by the Pensacola Children’s Chorus which aim to make quality singing experiences more accessible. This program is supported by the City of Pensacola. Sign-ups can be completed at PlayPensacola.com.

“The Pensacola Children’s Chorus will be a great asset in developing the lives of our young people,” says Adrian Stills, Director of Parks and Recreation with the City of Pensacola (and a former chorister at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church). “Singing is not just a fun activity. To be good at it, one must have discipline to practice and the tenacity to stay with it. The end result is well worth the effort.”

Rehearsals will run from early March to mid-May. A culminating performance featuring all Pensacola SINGS groups will be presented at the Woodland Heights Neighborhood Resource Center. Friends, family, and community members are invited to attend.
