Pensacola Children’s Chorus to play Carnegie Hall [podcast]

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus (PCC) will perform for a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 13, 2022.

“This is an astounding achievement for PCC and for Pensacola,” says Alex Gartner, Artistic & Executive Director and Inweekly Rising Star. “It honors decades of musical excellence occurring right here in our community. I am humbled and excited to accept this invitation, but our singers’ excitement is remarkable.”

PCC’s invitation was extended by Manhattan Concert Productions, a premiere operator of choral performances at Carnegie Hall. This invite-only opportunity will also feature elite youth choirs from Illinois, Ohio, California, South Carolina, Missouri, and New York State.

“When we told the singers about this opportunity last May, their reactions were beyond what I expected,” says Gartner. “In that moment, they instantly understood the significance of this opportunity.”

The performance will feature the world premiere of a new composition written by Gartner called “The Persistence of Song,” which features the text of longtime writer for the New Yorker magazine, Howard Moss. This premiere marks Gartner’s third appearance in the illustrious hall.

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus invites its Northwest Florida community to enjoy an informal send-off performance on Thursday, June 9, at 6:30pm, in Pleitz Chapel on the campus of First Baptist Church (500 N. Palafox, 32501). The concert is free, but donations to help offset travel costs are appreciated.
