Pensacola EggFest celebrates 10 years [podcast]

Ten years of pulled pork and brisket and ribs. Ten years of camaraderie and friendships and stories. And 10 years of fulfilling a mission: giving back to local charities.

In fact, more than half a million dollars raised by Pensacola EggFest has gone to support local charities such as Rally Pensacola, Manna Food Pantries and Studer Community Institute.

“Over the past 10 years, Pensacola EggFest has raised $550,000 for local charities like childhood cancer and systemic hunger and has served more than 20,000 meals to those in need,” said Lisa Long, EggFest co-chair. “This is the heart of EggFest — giving back. And this year, our tenth year, will be spectacular — we’re giving away 10 Big Green Egg grills!”

Returning celebrity judges include former Navy Seal Kevin “Dauber” Lacz (American Sniper Movie), barbecue guru Moe Cason (TLC’s “BBQ Pitmasters,” Food Network’s “The Kitchen” and “Chopped”) and “Sean of the South” Dietrich and his wife Jamie.

Another 40 local celebrity judges will be joining them including chefs Irv Miller, Frank Taylor, Jason Perry, Nathan Holler, and Alex McPhail.
The annual event, held at Pensacola Blue Wahoo Stadium, raises money for local charities while serving up some of the best barbeque in the south — all cooked on Big Green Eggs.

Organizer Doug Jolly said the local charities who work so hard to support our community deserve the communities support through Pensacola EggFest.

“I love the way this event is growing and giving back,” said Jolly. “Our friends at Manna Food Pantries, Rally Pensacola, Studer Community Institute, The Last Mile, Hunting for Healing, Guardian Ad Litem, The Blazer Academy and many more are so deserving of this community’s support. It’s very fulfilling that a foodie event that’s so much fun to put on and participate in gives back to our community — that’s why we do it — that’s our mission.”

EggFest has given $550,000 to support local charities like childhood cancer and systemic hunger and has served more than 20,000 meals to those in need. Charities have included Rally Pensacola, Manna Food Pantry, Studer Community Institute, Last Mile 5K, NWF Guardian Ad Litem and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Blazer Academy.
