Pensacola Fire Station 4, located at 1 N. Q St., is closed until further notice due to safety concerns related to potential mold discovered in the building.
Pensacola Fire personnel have been temporarily relocated from the station in an abundance of caution while additional testing is completed.
The City of Pensacola engaged a licensed environmental testing company to complete a mold assessment of Fire Station 4 and provide a report to the city, after potential mold was discovered last month. Although the report has not yet been completed, the company advised the city today, Thursday, March 30, that initial testing indicated airborne mold particulates in some areas of Fire Station 4.
In the interest of employee health and safety, city leadership made the decision to temporarily close Fire Station 4. Once a more thorough assessment and report are completed, the city will evaluate the results and determine next steps for remediation.
Pensacola Fire Department will maintain full coverage for the Station 4 response area and continue to provide the highest quality fire services to residents. Engine 4 will be temporarily relocated to Fire Station 1, located at 400 E. Cervantes St., and will maintain its response area and calls for Station 4.
“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our first responders and all City of Pensacola employees,” Mayor D.C. Reeves said. “I appreciate staff for taking immediate action to address this concern and working to ensure the safety of every firefighter working in Station 4.”
