Pensacola Mural Fest gets underway

2023 Mural

The first Pensacola Mural Fest muralists have arrived and started painting. The six muralists will start on various days over the next two weeks. Their murals will be completed in time for the Pensacola Mural Fest on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Along Garden Street, Daniela de Castro is painting the Pensacola State College building, located at 418 West Garden, Christian Stanley is painting Pensacola Auto Imports at 725 West Garden Street, and Curtis Glover is painting Strong Street Studio at 109 North A Street.

Along the Barrancas Corridor, Patrick Maxcy is painting AdSync at 201 South F Street and Aaron Taylor and Tom Paux of Brix Design, Inc. are painting Vowell’s Printing at 1233 Barrancas Avenue. The public is invited to come watch and talk with the artists as they paint their buildings.

“Last year’s Mural Fest was a big success with talented artists and eye-catching murals. We’re so excited to add our building this year,” said Fred and Greta Angeles, owners of Pensacola Imports. “Adding show-stopping art is not only good for the soul but a valuable asset for our community and of course our business. We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it!”

Inweekly Rising Star Daniela de Castro said, “As a Graphic Design PSC alum, I am thrilled to be painting the PSC building on Garden Street, and as a Pensacola artist and member of the local muralist community, I am grateful for the opportunity to add to the impressive collection of public art in the Tanyard Neighborhood, especially with artwork that is meaningful to me.”

Mural festivals have become an annual event in many larger cities worldwide and attract talented artists and tourists. Other cities have found that they not only result in beautiful new artwork but also new business and economic development.

The Pensacola Mural Fest will be held from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. The event will include artist talks, bands inside the American Legion Post, Pensacola Arts Market, food trucks, children’s activities, a sock hop and more. Neighborhood businesses are offering specials in conjunction
with the event, and in partnership with Pensacola Greek Festival, Pensacola Mural Fest will have free trolleys running between the Mural Fest, the Greek Fest and the Pensacola Arts Festival.
