Pensacola projects survive Scott’s veto

Gov. Rick Scott kept two Pensacola projects in the 2017 state budget: $1 million in funding for the Pensacola International Airport Commerce Park and $750,000 for IHMC stormwater retention.

Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward sent out a press release thanking the governor and explaining the importance of the projects:

Today, Mayor Ashton Hayward announced that the City of Pensacola has been successful in securing $1 million in funding for the Pensacola International Airport Commerce Park and $750,000 for IHMC stormwater retention.

Governor Scott vetoed 256 million dollars’ worth of projects however, the City of Pensacola was able to secure funding for these key projects. The funding for IHMC will allow for continued growth in research and education. These funds will also focus on stormwater retention, water quality improvements and public safety.

“This is a big win for the City of Pensacola and our Airport,” said Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward. “The acquisition of airport property is crucial to the airport’s ongoing growth and focus on economic development. I would like to thank Governor Scott for his continued support of Pensacola, economic development and job growth,” Hayward said. “I would also like to thank Chairman Clay Ingram for all his hard work and the tireless efforts of the Northwest Florida delegation.”

The efforts to obtain the appropriated funds highlight the ongoing commitment of Mayor Hayward and Representative Ingram to improve the competitive posture for economic development in Northwest Florida.

The approval of these funds for these initiatives also highlight Governor Scott’s continued commitment to job growth in Pensacola and our region.
