Pensacola residents gave Fire Department high marks, but chiefs still booted

While City Administrator Eric Olson has the city’s outside counsel investigating the Pensacola Fire Chief Matt Schmitt and Deputy Fire Chief Joe Glover, it should be noted that the Pensacola Fire Department was given last fall the highest satisfaction rating by city residents in the recent survey conducted by UWF’s HAAS Center.

Pensacola residents gave Fire Department Services the highest mean satisfaction score (4.46). It was the only city service that the citizens gave an A- rating.

Similar to last year’s results, 81 percent of all residents reported that they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the Fire Department’s performance.

And the high ratings varied very little across city districts. District 3 was the most satisfied (4.62) and District 7 was the least satisfied (4.26).

However, the services tied to the City Administrator did not perform as well:

Value of Services for City Taxes: 3.29 C+

Ease of Obtaining Information About City Services: 3.27 C+

Stormwater Infrastructure: 3.01 C+

Note: Prior to being named city administrator, Olson was in charge of the stormwater grants and repairs.

About the survey: Over an eight-week period that began in October 2015, Haas Center survey professionals administered the eight-question, multipart survey across each of Pensacola’s seven city council districts. In total, 402 people began and 388 completed the survey.
