Pensacola Speaks: Prison reform and Trauma intervention

On today’s show we will Allison DeFoor and Deanna Smith.

Dr. DeFoor is a seventh-generation Floridian who is an attorney and Episcopal priest working in prison ministry.

A man of many interests, he is known as a conservationist, a businessman, Florida historian, former judge, and was Sheriff of Monroe County. Dr. DeFoor was the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor in 1990, was Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, and served as Gov. Jeb Bush’s “Everglades Czar”

He is vice chairman of the Leroy Collins Institute at Florida State University and heads The Project on Accountable Justice – a non-partisan organization with a mission to provide meaningful, independent, public-interest research and education that will help to guide reforms that enlist evidence-based approaches to criminal justice.

Smith is the executive director of Trauma Intervention Program of Northwest Florida -an all volunteer program that helps families, friends and neighbors of victims by providing on-site counseling.
