Pensacola to ‘March for Our Lives’ to end gun violence

Gun in a classroom

PENSACOLA, FL – In response to the senseless massacre of 19 young children and 2 adults at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX, a March for Our Lives rally will be held to end gun violence in downtown Pensacola on Saturday, June 11. St. at 10:00am. Local activists and students will gather for a “sibling march” as part of the March for Our Lives Movement. There will be inspirational speakers including students, teachers, doctors and gun violence survivors.

The march is one of more than 400 happening around the country led by students and survivors of gun violence in communities big and small. Led by co-organizers, Alby Clendennin, a senior at University of West Florida, and Taran Black, a young mental health professional, the Pensacola march is not aimed at taking away guns but ending gun violence. This National Day of Action will call on lawmakers to make students’ lives and safety a priority and to pass common-sense gun safety legislation.

“Gun safety is such a critical issue because I want to feel safe on my college campus, or really anywhere,” said Clendennin. “Mass shootings have occurred at churches, concerts, night clubs and movie theaters. A mass shooting can happen anywhere in any town. This must change.” Black says, “This march is not meant to polarize people but bring us together to promote public safety and sensible gun legislation.” He believes that a peaceful rally will bring the community together while promoting gun safety.

The march begins at 10 a.m. at Plaza Ferdinand Plaza located at the corner of East Government St. and South Palafox St in Pensacola. Anyone looking to protect American children by strengthening our laws and stand with the victims of all shootings inside places of education, are invited and welcomed.
