Pensacola Winter Storm Closures, Cancellations & Conditions

2:55 p.m. Update:

The City of Pensacola remains under a Winter Storm Warning and continues to see snowfall throughout the area. This will likely be a historic winter storm event. STAY OFF OF THE ROADS.


Road Closures:

Residents are urged to STAY OFF THE ROADSduring AND after this significant weather event.

11:45 a.m. Update:

The City of Pensacola remains under a Winter Storm Warning and an Extreme Cold Warning through Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, with a potentially historic snow event likely today.

With 2-4 inches of snow forecast and higher accumulation possible for some areas, city residents are highly encouraged to stay home and stay off the roadways Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22. Snow and ice are expected to create hazardous driving conditions, even for areas with minor accumulation.

Pensacola International Airport:

All commercial operations are canceled for the remainder of the day. Airline operations, TSA & concessions are all closed. The airport runway is still open for operations until such time that it becomes unsafe.

Pensacola Police Department:

The Pensacola Police Department has doubled its amount of on duty officers. PPD’s community response specialists have been out since Sunday providing assistance to unhoused/unsheltered individuals seeking refuge from the extreme winter weather.

PPD has cold-weather supplies to offer to those who have declined offers of emergency shelter. PPD can be reached by contacting the non emergency number (850) 435-1845 or 911 in an emergency. 

Pensacola Fire Department:

The Pensacola Fire Department has added two additional to support winter storm needs. PFD reminds residents to practice safe heating in cold weather.

Public Works Department:

Four snowplows have been brought in from Atlanta and will be staged at the following locations: City Hall, Summit Boulevard Recycling Site, under I-110, and City of Pensacola Field Services Center on North Palafox.

Residents are asked to remove their vehicles parked along Summit Boulevard and other critical roads before weather conditions deteriorate. Snowplows will need full access to the road. See the map below for the snowplow route, or click here.

City of Pensacola Housing Department:

All Section 8 inspections scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22, have been canceled. City staff will reach out to participants next week to reschedule. Messages to the Section 8 Inspections Scheduling line at 850-858-0315 will be returned as soon as possible.

Cold Weather Shelters Open in Escambia County

The following shelters will be open in Escambia County as part of the county’s cold weather sheltering plan:

Waterfront Rescue Mission

REAP Max-Well Respite Center

 My Father’s Vineyard

Additionally, Escambia County Area Transit will provide free transportation between My Father’s Vineyard and Waterfront Rescue Mission, which allows those seeking shelter to easily travel between the overnight shelter at the church and the designated warming center at Waterfront Rescue.
