Perdido Key Rotary helps Jane’s Closet

Perdido Key Rotary is a small but mighty group of individuals with a passion for serving their community and finding new ways to make an impact. They took that passion and began to research and create their very first grant proposal in their history as an organization.

While researching they came across Gulf Coast Kid’s House (GCKH) and their volunteer organized closet affectionately known as “Jane’s Closet.”. GCKH is a child advocacy center assisting victims of child abuse in Escambia County and the closet serves as a home for new and gently used items donated from the community and available to child clients and their family members.

The Perdido Key Rotary Club members wrote a grant asking for funds to purchase items for the closet and also encouraged the Rotary Foundation to match those funds for a total of $2500.00. The grant was approved and was presented to Megan Chapman, the Outreach Director for GCKH, at Rotary’s weekly breakfast meeting on July 27th at Triggers. Special guests Rotary District 6940 Governor, Roger Champion and Assistant Governor, Innes Richards were in attendance.

Some Perdido Key Rotarians and Gulf Coast Kid’s House staff and volunteers will shop to help fill Jane’s Closet during the “tax free weekend” on Friday August 5th at Walmart on Blue Angel Parkway. If you’d like to donate please go to www.gulfcoastkidshouse.org.
