Pinellas County School Board votes unanimously to close NEP charter schools

The Pinellas County School Board today voted unanimously to terminate the charter contracts for three more schools run by Newpoint Education Partners.

Tampa Bay Times Reporter Colleen Wright tweeted that the school voted 7-0 to send termination notices to Windsor Preparatory Academy, East Windsor and Newpoint Pinellas Academy.

In a scene similar to the Escambia County School Board meeting last May, Pinellas parents, teachers and students packed the audience to ask that the district keep the school open.

Just as the Pensacola Newpoint parents, students and teachers did in defense of their Escambia County schools, the Pinellas crowd talked about their academic gains despite gaps in curriculum, and expressed that a newly constituted board would make a difference. And as in Escambia, the school board voted to pull the plug on the NEP schools.
