Please be consistent, Mark

In his column today, Mark O’Brien praises the relocation of the Main Street Sewage Treatment plant.

Call me crazy, but I feel optimistic about Greater Pensacola’s economy.

The official ground-breaking takes place April 11 on what will be a huge public works project — $300-plus million to replace the Main Street Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Because of the material and expertise required, much of the money will go elsewhere. But a big chunk will stay here to rev up the economy.

Across the street from the plant is the Community Maritime Park – 1500 jobs waiting to start building a project that could have an immediate impact on the area. How about pushing it, too?

BTW: If the ECUA required contractors to use local subcontractors and labor, then the relocation could have an even bigger impact on our economy.
